"Throwin Up" to the tune of "Growin Up" by Bruce Springsteen.
It all started in late October 2007. Captain Simon conceived this song for a local sports radio contest and he wrote the lyrics which were submitted to a certain trio of generally overweight sports guys on the AM radio dial. No response so I decided to produce my own version using a Windows program called Magix Studio. I proudly submitted the song to the sports station. Ignored.
Then someone said, "send it to Jonathan Brandmeier". And just like that, the seed was planted. I have written songs since I was a little girl, I mean boy, and many of these songs were meant to be silly. From his early days on WLUP in 1983, I always found Johnny B to be hilarious and unique but I never once considering contributing to his show for some reason until late October 2007 when Throwin Up was ready and the suggestion was made. Internet/ MP3/ HD converter radio-technology certainly helped made the process more possible.
Song was submitted Sunday 10/28/07 and was played 10/29/07. I guess they couldn't hear the lyrics because their audio engineer sent me a reply email asking for a remix with more prominent vocals. I sent the remix 10/29/07 and I remember thinking maybe I should bring my mobile phone up in case Johnny calls. Then I thought, "yeah as if" and went to bed. Johnny left the message below and aired the remix at around 6:30 AM 10/30/07 whilst I was in REM sleep. I called back but it was too late in the show.
They aired the remix again 11/1/07 and for the first time I heard myself on the radio. An addiction was born.
The other versions (Bulls and JB mix were never aired, rightfully so)
